National Dance Day in the United States is celebrated annually on the third Saturday of September. This holiday was created to encourage mass participation in dance events and to promote dance as a form of physical activity.

History of the holiday
National Dance Day was established in 2010 with the support of the American dance organization Dance/USA and choreographer Debbie Allen. The initiative aims to inspire people of all ages to engage in dance, improve their health, and develop creative skills. Since its inception, the holiday has annually highlighted various dance styles — from ballet and jazz to hip-hop and contemporary dance.

Goals and objectives

* Promote dance as a form of physical activity and art.
* Encourage people of all ages to participate in dance.
* Support dance schools, studios, and professional groups.
* Create a positive and inclusive community around dance.

How it is celebrated
On this day, mass dance flash mobs, workshops, and performances by professional dancers take place in public spaces and schools. Social media is actively used to share videos of dance performances and run online challenges. Many dance schools and organizations hold open classes so that anyone can join and learn new movements.
